Passing of Tom Hall, President of the Bowmen of Ardleigh

We recently received this message from Michael Bell:

"Sadly, I have to report the death of the President of the Bowmen of Ardleigh, Tom Hall, on 26th November 2023.

Tom Hall was our last remaining Founder Member from the first days of our Club in the early 1950s. Together with his brother Jack and others, Tom had been looking around for a ground, having tried nomadically in several places and eventually found a likely looking spot at the back of  the Ardleigh House Community Association.  This was in the days when the original Ardleigh House was still there and from that our Club was named “The Bowmen of Ardleigh”.

Once a permanent home had been found, the first Annual General Meeting of Ardleigh was held on 30th June 1954 and Tom was listed as attending in the Minutes of that meeting, together with several members who were still wuth our Club in 1970.  Tom was our Secretary from the AGM in February 1955 until February 1978 and then became our Vice-President, later President, and continued to play an active role in all matters at our Club.

He will be much missed."
