This Trophy Needs a Home - Can you Help?

The trophy on the right is the Victor Ludorum Trophy which is awarded each year to the Essex and Suffolk archer who has been most consistent at the County Shoots

However this was not awarded again this year.

To win it you need to shoot at the Indoor Championship, one of the Clouts (AGB and Metric),  the Target Championships (York, Hereford, Bristols), the WA1440 Championships and the Field Championships - but you have to be in it to win it.

Entry Forms are out for the Indoor (Chelmsford 10/11 March) and the AGB Clout (Woodford 22nd April) so if you want to be considered then make sure your entries are in.

Also Alex does not want it in his loft again!

The one on the Left is the Junior Millennium Trophy for the Junior shooting all the County disciplines and this year it was awarded to Aimee Davis

Vince Gorham 1928 - 2018

Vince had been actively involved in archery for over 50 years and many of our current senior archers would have much to thank Vince for in their early days. 

Vince had always been very heavily involved with the juniors in Essex having organised both the Havering Youth Games and the London Youth Games for many years. Vince was also the Havering team manager at the London Youth Games having first got involved at their inception 40 years ago and has not missed a single Games since.

I know that Vince has many friends in archery both in Essex and much farther afield. He will be sorely missed by all of his friends. And my deepest condolences go to his son Russell who has not only lost a father but also a friend. 

As soon as funeral details are known I will ensure that everyone is made aware.

Imogen Newby is at it again - this time at the Junior Nationals.

This is two days of competiton for the Juniors where Imogen shoots in the Under 14 category and which also holds a Regional and Home Nations shoot.

Saturday had WA1440 and Metric rounds with Immy shooting the Metric IV with 3 dozen arrows at 40m, 30m 20m and 10m and she shot brilliantly!

Final score 1360, the UK Ladies U14 Recurve Champion, a new PB, National 10m Record, four County Records, Club Record…and she wasn't finished there.

England took the Home Nations win and then she picked up another medal as part of the victorious SCAS Regional Team.

Then back again on Sunday - this time for the AGB Rounds so Immy was shooting the Bristol IV another 12 dozen round.

Again Imogen shot great and ended the day victorious and 1246 with a new PB, new County Record and another medal!

As Imogen says:

"I’m the Double UK Ladies U14 Recurve Champion 2017! Doesn’t get much better than that!"

Nice shooting Small - if you keep going this way your Olympic dream is in the bag.

Alex turns 18 in a few days so the Junior County Championship which was held this weekend (10 June) was Alex's last one.

The day was bright and sunny though there was plenty of wind but Alex battled through and took the win on the York Round.

He then came back the next day for the Senior Championship (11 June) and shot the York again but this time against the Seniors for the first time - and Won that.

Well done Alex - has the Essex Junior and Senior Championship been held at the same time by the same person before?

Alex Body has been shooting well recently and at the Noak Hill Westerns it looks like he had a very good day.

It was blustery and we have thunder just before the start of the shoot but Alex overcame the conditions and shot a new PB.

It also is a new County Record (subject to ratification) for the New Western of 714 which beats the previous record which had been held for over 30 years by Richard Selway at 708 since 1983.

Congratulations Alex and I'm sure this is not the last time PBs and records will go this year.

Archery GB has announced the National Squad that will represent Great Britain at major international events and show the world the quality and competitive nature of Archery GB's preparation and support programme!

The nine athletes have each proved they are capable of scoring at an internationally competitive level, as per selection documents published on the Archery GB website.

The squad is a mix of experienced internationals and new faces and offers huge potential to move forward and be competitive on the international stage.

The squad members are:

Bryony Pitman (Bryony is still eligible to compete as a junior.)
Ashe Morgan
Kieran Slater
Olympian Patrick Huston
Tom Hall
Michael Judd
Alex Wise (Alex is still eligible to compete as a cadet)

Tom, Michael and Alex are making the step up to the National Squad.

David Tillotson, Director of Sport at Archery GB, said: "I'm delighted to announce the new squad. I do believe that the scores these archers have latterly begun to show will enable us to be competitive throughout 2017, building towards the World Championships in Mexico in October.

There is an exciting blend of youth and experience within the squad but all have proven that they deserve to be there and are ambitious to take this opportunity. As with all squads, I will be reviewing standards and performance throughout the season to ensure we achieve our goals."
