Hello All

Saturday 19th February. Sittingbourne  Community College Kent

We were invited to take part in the 4 way indoor Portsmouth competition between, Kent, ECAA, Hertfordshire and Surrey.

The morning team comprised of Compound Archers, Jason Pretlove, Brian Lock, Tony Sewell and Simon Spendlove, Recurve Archers, Michael Judd, Zep Birdsall, Wendie King and Allan Horne.

The afternoon Archers were Barebow, Tony Gedalovitch, Mark Turner, Peter Schofield, Longbow, Eric Mallet, Mark Lawrence, Harry Cossey and Myself. We were short of one barebow archers but Kent had an extra, Alice Friend who filled out our team. Thanks Alice

We started each session with a minutes silence due to the untimely passing of one of the Kent Archers, and then the recurve and compound teams started. Everyone put in a very good effort and at the end of the session the compound results were complete but we had to wait for the recurve as one of the other teams had to swap a longbow and recurve archer between sessions.

The Compound result was

Herts 2307
ECAA 2260
Kent 1703

Then after lunch it was time for the Barebow and Longbow teams. The final results were as follows

Having only recently mourned the passing of John Farrant, it is of equally sad news that another of our oldest members - Pat O’Doherty - passed away on 1st February at the age of 90 having also succumbed to Covid.

Pat joined Abbey Bowmen in 2003 and was fondly remembered by those that knew him as a wonderful gentleman with time for everyone and passionate archer. Pat also severed on the club committee for a number of years as equipment officer, often taking time aside from his own shooting to provide his expert advice to the many new club archers that joined using club equipment.

His funeral will be held at South Essex Crematorium on Wednesday, February 23 at 1:20pm
