York Round 2009

“WE FEW, WE HAPPY FEW, WE BAND OF BROTHERS…”  THE ST CRISPIN DAY ADDRESS BY KING HENRY V STARTED OUR SHOOT.

THIS WAS THE FUN YORK ROUND AT“OAKFIELD ARCHERS”, SHOT AT THEIR GROUND ON FAIRLOP PLAIN ON 25TH JUNE.

SIX LONGBOW ARCHERS SHOT A ROUND OF 6 DOZ ARROWS AT 100YDS, 4 DOZ AT 80 YDS AND 2 DOZ AT 60 YDS.  THE WINDING OF THE HORN SIGNALLED LOOSE AND FAST FOR EACH END OF SIX ARROWS.

WE WERE EXCEPTIONALLY LUCKY WITH THE WEATHER AS IT TURNED OUT TO BE A BEAUTIFULLY HOT SUMMER’S DAY.  THERE WAS A CROSS WIND THOUGH AND THE WINDAGE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY SUCH THAT WHEN THE WIND DROPPED ARROWS TWICE LANDED ON THE WRONG TARGET.

CHARLIE WAS THE FIRST TO HIT THE TARGET AT 100 YARDS, WITH TWO HITS ON OUR FIRST SIX SIGHTERS.  INCREDIBLY, STEVE SOON FOLLOWED WITH FIVE SCORING ARROWS OUT OF SIX, AGAIN AT 100 YARDS.  AS SHOWN BELOW, WE ALL MANAGED TO SCORE AT 100 YARDS.

LUNCH IN THE SUN FOLLOWED AFTER THE FIRST SIX DOZEN ARROWS.  THE REFRESHMENTS INCLUDED SOME TOTS OF LIQUEURS, WHICH WENT DOWN WELL.

THERE WAS REMARKABLY LITTLE SEARCHING FOR ARROWS DEEPLY BURIED IN THE SHORT GRASS.   ALL ARROWS WERE FOUND AND WE FINISHED THE ROUND BY EARLY AFTERNOON.

THE RESULTS WERE AS FOLLOWS: -                                                                                                                                                                                                        SCORE                    HITS                   GOLDS
