The annual 4-way Intercounty Indoor competition took place today, 29th March 2009, at the Harris Academy, The Green, Welling, Kent, hosted by Kent. Essex, London and Middlesex also provided teams of senior recurve archers to compete for the trophy won last year by Essex.
Despite this Sunday being the first day of BST and the Harris Academy being difficult to find, all our squad got there by the start time, with sighters running 15 minutes late due other county late arrival. The venue was fine, spacious and well lit with the sun shining through the windows without blinding the archers.
The judge was kept busy with target face replacement as the standard of shooting was high and the 10 zones of the Portsmouth faces were being obliterated quickly.
It was a closely contested match between Essex and Middlesex, but eventually Essex won with a final score of 2854 to Middlesex 2852. Kent came 3rd with a score of 2747, while the London team produced a final score of 2697. The squads were treated to Kent’s hospitality while the final placings were calculated.
Essex Team scores( best 5 to count including an opposite gender); Wendie Stevens 576, Bob Riley 575, Derek Lawless 573, Matt Webb 573, Andrew Smith 557. Yvonne Wade 552.
My thanks go to each team member for their collective efforts on the day that produced another county win. Well done everyone.
