The annual SCAS Senior team event took place at Andover on Sunday 14th September 2008. Essex put in a very strong Recurve team and a Compound team that had several of the Counties best archers missing, and included some very late call-ups who responded magnificently.
The weather conditions were probably the best we have had this outdoor season, no wind, no rain and cool enough to be comfortable for those shooting, although the field itself was muddy from torrential rain on the previous Friday. The light mist dissipated quickly, but the Sun never really came out as it was hidden by a light overcast sky.
Shooting started on time and as the scores were gathered it became obvious that the Recurve team were shooting well, having a slight lead by the second dozen. The Compound team at this point, who were up against some very strong opposition, were in the middle of the pack.
As the shoot unfolded the Recurve team stretched their lead every two dozen, while the Compound team started losing ground to the stronger teams.
The final scores for each team were;
Wendie Stevens – 1189 (GMB), Yvonne Wade – 1123 (MB), Martin Skinner – 1104 (GMB), Matthew Webb – 1077 (MB) . Total 4493
Scores not included – Derek Lawless – 1054 (MB) and Luke Willett (reserve) – 1074 (MB)
Pat Spragg – 1234 (MB), Mitch Vaughan – 1152, Steve Spragg – 1140, Sandra Neal – 1123 Total – 4649
Scores not included – Harry Grove – 1086 . George Fenton was unable to shoot due to tonsillitis.
